The Water Dancer Summary

Dancer presents the life of famed Russian soloist Rudolf Nureyev. Spanning four decades and many worlds, from the horrors of Stalingrad Dancer book the wild abandon of Dancer book York in the eighties, Dancer is peopled by a large cast of characters, obscure and famous: doormen and shoemakers, Margot Fonteyn and John Lennon.

Dancer book brother drowns, but Hiram is transported out of the water. As a young child, Rudi learnt to deal with abuse and other forms of violence just as long as he could dance.

He learns that his miracle survival was a result of a superhuman ability he has called conduction, which transports himself and others across impossible distances. As Hiram becomes more proficient in Conduction, he regains memories of his mother.

I could see that he could flat out write, seeing that he has won a National Book Award for his work. Years later, when Hiram almost drowns in a river, that same power saves his life.

Sophia loves her child, despite the fact that she became pregnant with it after being raped by a white man. What roles do the concepts of motherhood and fatherhood play in the novel? The picture of Nureyev that many often remember is that of a gifted performer who was also a compulsive egomaniac.

He eventually becomes involved with the Underground Railroad.

McCann presents his story in many voices, each giving their perspective on the Rudi they knew over the years. An ethnic Tatar of peasant stock, Rudi Nureyev came from humble beginnings in the Russian republic of Bashkiria.

They express mutual love, but Sophia says that she values independence and is not sure if she would ever want to marry, even after she escapes slavery. Also, I sympathize with Anna.

Here, it would have been a telling addition to mature prose that read as steamily as the relationship between leading ballet dancers.
